OSHAWA ROOTS · 20+ YEARS ON THE WATER

BEFORE THERE WERE MICS, THERE WERE CASTS.

Fishing Loons is Jesse and Andrew: longtime fishing buddies who built the show from the same thing that started all of this — getting on the water, figuring it out, laughing at the misses and remembering the stories.

BEFORE THE PODCAST

THE STORY STARTS IN OSHAWA.

Long before Fishing Loons had a feed, a studio or a partner list, fishing was already part of the routine. Jesse has talked publicly about growing up in Oshawa and fishing Oshawa Creek for roughly two decades. He and Andrew describe themselves as longtime fishing buddies, and in 2026 put the number at more than 20 years fishing together.

The off-air version of the story reaches back even further: childhood friendship, local shorelines and pier sessions around Oshawa, and years of learning fishing the ordinary way — one cast, one snag, one story at a time.

TWO SIDES OF THE SAME BOAT

MEET JESSE + ANDREW.

Same water. Different rabbit holes. Enough shared history to know exactly which buttons to push.

JESSE

THE ONE WITH THE PLAN. USUALLY.

Jesse hosts and produces Fishing Loons. On the show he is the rods-and-reels rabbit-hole guy, the storyteller and the one most likely to turn a simple gear question into a full discussion. His Oshawa fishing history runs deep, and the podcast gives those years of trips, experiments and mistakes somewhere to land.

ANDREW

THE ONE WHO MAKES THE PLAN MORE INTERESTING.

Andrew brings the lure obsession, the curiosity and the side comments that keep the show from ever becoming too serious. He has been fishing since childhood, collects old and unusual lures, and brings the try-it-and-see side of the partnership to the water and the microphone.

Creeks, shorelines, pier sessions and the beginnings of a fishing friendship that existed long before anyone thought about recording it.

FISHING TOGETHER

Jesse and Andrew now describe the partnership as more than two decades of fishing together — enough time for a lot of techniques, opinions and stories to pile up.

THE PODCAST FEED BEGINS

An introduction episode lands first. One week later, Small Craft Angling opens the fishing conversation with canoes, kayaks and the kind of accessible fishing that still defines the show.

TODAY

FISHING LOONS

Practical Ontario fishing, gear talk, guests, folklore, mistakes, laughs and two longtime buddies still trying to figure out where the fish went.

WHY FISHING LOONS WORKS

AVERAGE IS THE POINT.

Fishing Loons is built for anglers who actually fish: bank, pier, canoe, kayak, little boat, whatever gets you there. The goal is useful information without pretending every day on the water is a highlight reel.

01

USEFUL FIRST.

Tips, tactics and gear talk should help somebody fish — not just sound impressive.

02

ONTARIO WATER.

Seasons, species and situations that feel familiar to anglers who actually fish here.

03

THE STORY COUNTS.

The fish matters. So does everything ridiculous that happened before it hit the net.

THE OSHAWA FILE

Oshawa still shows up in the DNA of the show. Jesse has joked about the strange things years on Oshawa Creek put on the end of his line, and Andrew has his own local-creek stories. Lesson learned: never assume the thing you hooked is a fish.
